Ravichandran Ashwin’s five for seals series for Ind vs Eng

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin claimed his 35th five-wicket haul in Tests as India bowled out England for 145 on the third day of the fourth Test in Ranchi, setting up a chase of 192 runs to secure the series victory.

Ravichandran Ashwin took 5-51, equaling Anil Kumble‘s record for the most Test fifers by an Indian bowler, and was well supported by Kuldeep Yadav, who picked up 4-22 with his left-arm wrist spin.

England, who resumed at 53-3, lost wickets at regular intervals and could not cope with the sharp turn and bounce on offer. Only opener Zak Crawley showed some resistance with a fluent 60, while Jonny Bairstow chipped in with 30.

India, who had conceded a 46-run lead in the first innings, made a positive start to their chase, reaching 40-0 at stumps. Captain Rohit Sharma was unbeaten on 24 and Yashasvi Jaiswal on 16. India needs 152 more runs to win their third consecutive match and the five-Test series, which they currently lead 2-1.

Earlier, India were bowled out for 307 in their first innings, thanks to a gritty 90 by wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, who added valuable runs with the tail. Jurel was dropped on 59 by Ollie Robinson off James Anderson, who finished with 3-68.

Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir was the pick of the England bowlers, taking his maiden five-wicket haul in Tests. He ended with 5-119, becoming the second-youngest England bowler to achieve the feat.

England will need a miraculous performance from their bowlers on the fourth day to keep the series alive, while India will look to wrap up the match and the series with their batting prowess.
