In a surprising twist, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have announced a big change in leadership before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. MS Dhoni, who has led the team to victory five times, has decided to step down as captain. He’s handing over the reins to the young Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The CSK CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, said
Dhoni made this decision just before a photoshoot event for IPL captains in Chennai. It was revealed on the eve of CSK’s first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Kasi Viswanathan mentioned that although it was unexpected, Dhoni did it for the team’s benefit.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been part of CSK since 2019 and has played 52 IPL matches, recognized the big responsibility that comes with being the captain. The CEO assured fans that Dhoni would still be there to guide Gaikwad and the team. This means Dhoni’s experience and advice will still be very important for CSK.
