Former all-rounder Shahid Afridi was disappointed with the Pakistan team after Rohit Sharma’s massive 228-run defeat to India in the Asia Cup Super Four match at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Monday, September 11.

Chasing the huge target of 357 runs, Pakistan’s innings is 138 runs for eight wickets in 32 overs. Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf did not come out to bat due to injuries, making their playing in the rest of the tournament doubtful.

Afridi said that India defeated Pakistan in every department. He congratulated Virat Kohli for completing 13000 runs in ODIs and also praised KL Rahul.

However, Afridi sent words of inspiration and asked Pakistan to make a strong comeback in their last and final Super Four match against Sri Lanka.

Afridi wrote, “Winning/losing is part of competition, but not fighting, not showing intent to win is poor. Exactly what I was referring to in my previous tweet. India played as number 1 in batting and bowling on the field. Congratulations to @imVkohlion on achieving another dream milestone of ODI runs and well prepared boys by you and KL Rahul, may you do better than this in the next match.

After the match, Babar also praised the batting of Rahul and Kohli. The Pakistani captain admitted that lack of partnership and losing wickets at regular intervals cost them the match.

“He had a plan for our bowlers. And then KL and Virat followed and finished very well,” Babar was quoted as saying at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“Jasprit and Siraj bowled very well in the first ten overs, swinging both ways. Yes, we lost wickets continuously, couldn’t build partnerships.”

Pakistan are currently placed third in the Super Four table with two points and a net run rate of -1.892.
